چکیده

For k ≥ 1, let I g (k) be the k term in the Johnson filtration of the mapping class group of a genus g surface with one boundary component. We prove that for all k ≥ 1, there exists some Gk ≥ 0 such that I g (k) is generated by elements which are supported on subsurfaces whose genus is at most Gk. We also prove similar theorems for the Johnson filtration of Aut(Fn) and for certain mod-p analogues of the Johnson filtrations of both the mapping class group and of Aut(Fn). The main tools used in the proofs are the related theories of FI-modules (due to the first author with Ellenberg and Farb) and central stability (due to the second author), both of which concern the representation theory of the symmetric groups over Z.

The filtration characteristics of the aqueous outflow system.

To determine the filtration characteristics of the aqueous outflow system, microspheres (0.18 micron -1.1 micron) were perfused through enucleated human and bovine eyes. The microspheres were smaller than morphologically determined flow dimensions, and yet a significant fraction of all sizes of microspheres were captured. The bovine (calf) aqueous outflow system was found to be a far more effic...

Pseudo-Anosov dilatations and the Johnson filtration

Answering a question of Farb–Leininger–Margalit, we give explicit lower bounds for the dilatations of pseudo-Anosov mapping classes lying in the kth term of the Johnson filtration of the mapping class group.

Homological Finiteness in the Johnson Filtration of the Automorphism Group of a Free Group

We examine the Johnson filtration of the (outer) automorphism group of a finitely generated group. In the case of a free group, we find a surprising result: the first Betti number of the second subgroup in the Johnson filtration is finite. Moreover, the corresponding Alexander invariant is a module with non-trivial action over the Laurent polynomial ring. In the process, we show that the first ...

On the Hodge Filtration of Hodge Modules

Let X be a complex manifold, and Z an irreducible closed analytic subset. We have the polarizable Hodge Module ICZQ H whose underlying perverse sheaf is the intersection complex ICZQ. See [16]. Let (M,F ) be its underlying filtered DX -Module. ThenM is the unique regular holonomic DX -Module which corresponds to ICZC by the Riemann-Hilbert correspondence [9] [13], and it is relatively easy to d...
